Alright from my last post, I kind of want to go a little more into Christianity and Harry Potter. So I've been reading some reviews based on what christians have said about Harry Potter. Now it seems that a lot of parents have found themselves to ask this question, Is Harry Potter against God? The answer that some families have is yes, because of the "good" and "evil" aspect. Well if you look at it from a different viewpoint, it's not exactly like that. Yes, they kind of make Harry and his friends out to be the good people and Voldemort to be the bad one. But there are other things that make Harry Potter a positive. Such as, Harry's mother dying to save him. Or Harry showing courage, and facing his fears for the greater good. Doesn't some families want their children to possibly have these traits? I would. A negative that I would have to say about it would be if your child is too young to get a hold on themselves while reading these, like getting lost into the magical world they wish was real, it might not be for them until they are older.
Another thing that christians should keep in mind, is that in Harry Potter, of course they are learning magic like learning spells, reading crystal balls, or learning about magical creatures ex. Unicorn, but are those kinds of things the bad stuff? They aren't learning about talking to the dead at all so there's at least one thing.
I personally like the Harry Potter series, obviously, but I don't think that christians should hold that against their children, or not read the series. It is a great series, that is full of wonders, it always makes me a little happier when I'm done reading it. The story has many twists and turns that makes your mind wonder what's going to happen next which I like about it. To me there is no mention of God, or the devil, or anything about any religion. So why not read an excellent series. If you don't your really missing out.
I fail to see how the "good" and "evil" aspect directly relates to God anyway, for example, Harry is just an average student really, and he certainly doesn't possess god-like qualities.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if this is the case then every superhero story in existance is evil, stories like Lord of the Rings are evil...and let's see...almost every bit of fiction is evil...save for romance and high school drama books. So...almost all of the good is gone then...This is why I'm not a big relgious person. I like these things, don't see anything wrong with them, and dare religion to tell me why they're bad.
